About

US

St Pauls Lifestyle inc OVERGROUND SOUND is the free, independent and ethical multi media magazine with the "influential" and "exciting" OVERGROUND SOUND - regarded as "vital for musicians". We do this to support striving artists.

We are passionate about music and love comedy.

We do filmed sessions/ interviews/ films/ reviews/ features/ podcasts/ festival coverage on big and small names, signed and unsigned.

WE SELL MUSIC

We sell music in our SHOP and 90% of proceeds from the music we sell go to the artists who created that music.

We care a great deal about this. We want to give artists a way of getting paid decent money for their creativity – and keep ownership of the songs they write, too. Some musicians come in and record with us and sell that music. Contact us if you're interested in doing this: info@stpaulslifetsyle.com

LISTED ARTISTS

If an artist makes it as a "LISTED ARTIST" on OVERGROUND SOUND it means we think it has "something serious to offer". – LISTED ARTISTS are able to use our "LISTED ARTIST" logo on their web sites etc:

LISTED ARTIST LOGO

If you are already LISTED and would like this logo, help yourself or email us. :)

See HOW TO GET LISTED, below for more info.

STUDIO

We have a studio at our premises where we can do full, live, and acoustic sessions as well as stand-up and prose and poetry recording. We mix, edit and film.

SUPPORT

We support new artists by interspersing features on them with big features like sessions, interviews, reviews etc – e.g. Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine) ; Duff McKagan (Guns n Roses, Loaded), Walking Papers, Stone Sour, Papa Roach, Alt-J, Levi Roots, Kirk Brandon (Spear of Destiny, Theatre of Hate), Christian Scott, Gary Numan; Frank Turner, We Are The Ocean, Rise Against, Alabama3, Dukes Spirit, Courtney Pine, Bury Tomorrow; Pulled Apart by Horses, Paul Smith, Joel Plaskett and Peter Elkas, Chris T-T, Soweto Kinch...we do not discriminate against genres.

Following a trip to Berlin for Rise Against and Coliseum's last night together, we released our first rockdoc on 14 August 2011 - features include an exclusive interview with Coliseum – which Coliseum liked so much they dedicated a song to Rose Paul during their huge ColumbiaHalle gig!

Our YouTube channel has grown and grown since then. Our multi media platform gives us additional vehicles to showcase all kinds of creative output including unsigned bands' music and stand-ups' comedy as well as artists, poets and chefs.

We actively support self-management .

Don't hesitate to contact us ...info@stpaulslifestyle.com

HOW TO GET LISTED

All our "LISTED ARTISTS" have passed our "something serious to offer" benchmark test.

How is this tested? - We look at: artistic integrity, originality, determination and application.

Determination and application tend to be measured by what you do for your art - how you tell people about it; how many gigs you do; how you promote it etc

This is the same criteria as for our exclusive "WATCH LIST" of bands - except all our WATCH LIST bands have something extra special which means we have "tipped them for the top" - like Alt-J here

So, first off, send us your art/ music/stand up/prose/words and food and we'll listen up/read up!

Ways of sending us material:

Email us: info@stpaulslifestyle.com

Links etc via Twitter: @stpaulslifestyl

Facebook: facebook.com/stpaulslifestyle

You can send us Soundcloud links, other links - Facebook pages etc and/or hard discs. Please send discs to

St Pauls Lifestyle inc OVERGROUND SOUND Halterworth House, Halterworth Lane, Romsey, Hants SO51 9AE

Provided we can hear you have "artistic integrity", we move on to the next 3 tests.

There are lots of us who listen up - plenty of ears have heard your sound/read your words before a decision is made to LIST you.

We are not looking for the ultra produced finished sound, we're listening up for that spark. If we hear something really raw and promising then we'll stay in touch and sometimes mentor until you're ready to get featured as a "LISTED ARTIST".

We get approaches from all over the world and it really is an achievement to be "LISTED". Once "LISTED" you can tell the world that you are a "LISTED ARTIST" on St Pauls Lifestyle's OVERGROUND SOUND and use the "LISTED LOGO" above.

LISTED ARTISTS PORTFOLIOS

LISTED ARTISTS also get their own space on St Pauls Lifestyle and their name is "LISTED" in the site LIST. All the features on that artist come up when their name is clicked E.g. Alt-J

We love going to gigs and stand-up - so keep in touch with us - tell us what gigs you are doing and when and if we can we'll schedule in one of us to attend.

The amount of live performances you do is part of our criteria - so it's worth telling us about gigs and tours even if you're abroad - because then we know you're serious about your music and act and that's important.

For more music tips, check out our Band/musician self-management "Ultra Basics" film

ETHICS

We are anti-discrimination. We believe in affirmation. That's why we have a "positive publishing" policy meaning we will not diss. If we see or hear something flawed we keep it zipped. If we see something flawed with potential we keep going back until it's good enough for us to feature.

We support CAUSES like Occupy, Pussy Riot and Mental Wealth. Mental Wealth is all about celebrating the positives of mental health stuff.

OVERGROUND SOUND is supported by the proceeds from St Pauls Lifestyle's retail so that it can do what it does for free.
