The fantastic British summertime seems to be here at last, bringing with it Pimms, rounders, tire swings, hay fever and barbecues, and to accompany it all, The Beatles. The British institution have featured in the soundtrack of many a summer, with classic summery songs like Here Comes The Sun, but there’s one song which since watching Yellow Submarine as a child has never failed to get me into a summery mood and that is 1968's “Hey Bulldog”.
This is The Beatles at their cheeky, playful best. It’s extremely catchy and the best bit is Ringo Starr’s cameo vocal line, saying “yep” after Lennon sings “Big Man”. It sounds daft, but for me it just sums up The Beatles’ sense of humour. This was also supposedly the last recording with real enthusiasm from the entire band: a great riff, bass line, guitar solo and cheeky feeling to the whole song. The conversation between Lennon and McCartney at the end is also hugely heartwarming. Have a good day chaps.
