Strummer of Love’s image as a political and innovative festival is personified in the music of many of the bands and acts performing, and for me, the one who stands out as one of the most expressive musicians is Billy Bragg. In addition to his political songs of protest, he, much like Bob Dylan, has written many beautiful love songs. One such love song is “New England”, which mixes a feeling of hope with hopelessness, faith and faithlessness, and love and bitterness. It’s a beautiful and comforting song and is one that I’m very looking forward to hearing this weekend at Strummer of Love.
